The family of a man killed in a mining accident may make a no win, no fee compensation claim if the work accident is found to have been caused by employer negligence.
The 51-year-old man died at a colliery in Rotherham on Monday evening after he fell down a shaft from ground level.
Representatives of the Health and Safety Executive are investigating the scene to determine the cause of the miner's fall.
Another worker was treated at the scene for shock.
The National Union of Mineworkers said it would not comment until the full facts had been gathered.
However, Yorkshire NUM secretary Chris Kitchen said: "Eight miners having been killed in the past few years and this adverse trend must be reversed."
It has not been reported if the man's family have contacted a no win no fee solicitor.
