A worker from Selby is likely to be eligible for compensation in a work injury claim after suffering a horrific accident when coming into contact with a rotating circular saw blade.
The workplace injury eventually caused the man to lose four fingers on his right hand which doctors had to amputate.
The 55-year-old man had been employed at a subsidiary of one of the biggest playground equipment manufacturers in the UK for 20 years when the accident at work occurred.
The accident was caused as the factory worker was slicing wooden discs which are components of playground roundabouts, when the saw that he was using violently kicked back which dragged his hand along the exposed blade.
His employer pleaded guilty at Selby Magistrate Court to breaching health and safety regulations and was fined £4,700 with the total costs being £2,382.40.
The Health and Safety Inspector who examined the case described the company's method of trimming the wooden discs as being "inherently unsafe."
Workers who are injured due to health and safety negligence are usually entitled to make a work injury claim against their employers.
