An employee has suffered a severe work accident after a fall of seven and a half metres, which left him with severe personal injuries.
The 37-year-old man was working for a roofing and maintenance company, removing asbestos from a commercial building, when he fell through a roof light to the floor below.
The employee sustained serious injuries in the fall, which left him with multiple bone fractures over his body, including his ribs, legs, spine, and arms.
The incident meant his Taunton-based employer appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court where it admitted breaching the Work at Height Regulations. It was fined £4,500 and ordered to pay costs of £2,482.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive stated that it is the employer's responsibility to ensure that their workers are not ever in danger from falls.
Now that liability for the workplace accident has been determined, the work injury victim may decide to make a compensation claim.
