An employee of a Leicester outlet of the world's largest fast food chain is set to receive around £10,000 in work accident compensation after suffering lifelong scars in a slip and trip fall.
Although the work accident compensation claim is not expected to paid out in the immediate future, in a separate hearing the restaurant were fined £20,000 after Leicester Magistrate's Court found them guilty of breaching health and safety law.
The court heard how the 17-year-old, who was forced to take five months off college, slipped on a piece of cardboard which had been placed on the floor to soak up oil leaking from a deep fryer. A spokesperson from Leicester City Council commented, "The member of staff was walking past a fryer when she slipped."She put out her left arm to try to stop herself and almost her entire arm was submerged in scalding oil."As a result the young woman suffered a major injury to her left hand and forearm, which has been permanently scarred."
While not commenting on any work accident compensation claim being taken by the girl and her no win, no fee lawyer, a spokesperson for the food chain did say, "We were upset by this accident although we have taken some comfort that the crew member made an excellent recovery."
