A 34-year-old volunteer has suffered serious personal injury on an amateur film set.
The woman who was volunteering as a costume designer at a Buckinghamshire school fell down a flight of steps while making some last-minute alterations to a costume.
The two-metre fall caused the woman to suffer fractured vertebrae in her back which has left her permanently paralysed from the waist down.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation showed that the mock staircase down which the woman had fallen had no protection so all cast and crew working on the set would have been at risk of an injury.
High Wycombe Magistrates' Court heard the school admit to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act and fined it £17,500.
An HSE inspector described the accident as totally preventable, had there been in place a safe system of working at the school.
It has not been reported whether the victim will be pursuing a personal injury compensation claim through the civil courts for the work accident.
