A senior helmsman from Hampshire whose distinguished voluntary work as a lifeboatman was ended by an M27 car accident has received whiplash compensation.
The 50-year-old explained how he became aware of the severity of his neck injury. "I had no cuts or bruises but as the days went on I started feeling uncomfortable and a visit to the hospital showed my spine had been knocked into an ''S'' shape. I had a whiplash injury and it began to get worse because of the impact," he said.
A component of the £6,000 whiplash compensation deal is to recognise the impact the injury has had on denying the man the ability to fulfill his passion: helping distressed seafarers and swimmers.
The whiplash compensation settlement was secured for the man by his union and his personal injury solicitor.
He said the money will be invested in his and his wife's tenth wedding anniversary celebrations.
