Compensation for fitter's HAVS

A 55-year-old fitter has been awarded £10,000 personal injury compensation after developing Vibration White Finger as a result of using vibrating tools during the course of his employment.

He now suffers from painful hands and must wear special Vibration White Finger treatment gloves during colder weather.

The successful claimant commented, "I first noticed a problem with my hands six years ago. Now they turn white and become painful in cold weather and I have to wear heated gloves."

The claimant's personal injury solicitor said that his firm was "pleased we have been able to settle this claim."

He also said that the settlement for Vibration White Finger, sometimes known as Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS), should remind us that "many workers see HAVS as an inevitable by-product of their work, but it is a workplace injury which can have a real affect on the sufferer's life.

"They should have been protected against developing HAVS and as a result have a right to pursue compensation."
