A major tyre production company has been fined £13,500 after an accident at work injured an employee at one of its plants.
The company admitted liability for the accident, after breaching the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, during a magistrates hearing last week.
The worker suffered industrial injury earlier this year when his ribs were broken after a pallet fell from a forklift truck.
A Health and Safety Executive inspector said in a statement after the case, "It is important that individuals and employers remember their duties under the law to take reasonable care of the health and safety of others.
"The injuries inflicted could have been significantly worse, or even fatal. Operators of lift trucks must ensure that they operate them in accordance with training and employers must ensure that they are used safely."
A spokesperson for the company admitting liability for the accident at work said, "We will learn from the findings of this case and continue to improve".
