Pair crushed in bus shelter following car crash

A woman who caused a road traffic accident which left a mother with fatal personal injuries has been given a 12-month community order.

The 44-year-old mother had been waiting at a bus stop with her 9-year-old son when the driver lost control and crashed her Toyota into the bus shelter where they stood.

The crash caused the bus stop to collapse on top of the woman and her son causing them both to sustain severe personal injuries. The young boy suffered a fractured skull in the incident and has since made a full recovery, although he still requires counselling. Unfortunately, the woman's injuries were so severe she died in hospital two days later.

The 34-year-old motorist who was driving the car has admitted causing death by careless driving at Reading Crown Court.

As a result of the car accident, the driver was ordered to complete 240 hours of unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for 12 months.

It has not been reported whether or not the young boy and his family will launch a claim for road traffic accident compensation against the driver.
