The parents of around 50 children injured in a coach crash on the M62, near junction 12, may choose to make traffic accident claims for compensation.
Two coaches, filled with 30 and 49 school children respectively, were transporting the pupils back to their primary schools after an educational trip.
The crash involved the coaches, two vans and a car. Many of the young passengers in the coaches sustained personal injury.
The emergency services arrived and a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service stated that 22 children were taken to hospital. Others were treated on the scene and taken back to their schools.
One of the coach drivers is reported to have suffered a broken leg and had to be cut free by a fire crew. A van driver also had to be freed from their vehicle in this way.
Any injuries to the other van or car driver have not been reported.
None of the children's personal injuries were described as serious, but parents who feel that they are entitled to make a claim on their young child's behalf may still be able to do so.
After police investigate the accident and determine who is liable for the incident, victims will be eligible to receive compensation for their pain and suffering.
