An 82-year-old man from Somerset who has been told he has only a short time left to live has secured a pay out of mesothelioma compensation.
A no win, no fee solicitor argued that the claimant suffered asbestos exposure while he was working for BT at a secret government site in Corsham.
However, BT denied liability but agreed to settle the mesothelioma compensation claim for a six-figure sum.
A spokesperson for the company commented, "For the purpose of this case BT has agreed to make a compensation payment… in respect of his mesothelioma," the statement said.
"The agreement has not been specific to any part of his employment.
"BT does not admit there was any exposure in the 1990s in Corsham."
Despite this, the claimant made it clear that he felt his former employer was at least partly liable for his industrial illness and his mesothelioma compensation action.
"Looking back all the time I was on BT I never heard the words asbestos mentioned to be honest," he said.
