Loch ness boating mishap causes suspected spinal injury

An unnamed young woman has sustained suspected spinal injury after being involved in a boating accident on Loch Ness recently.

A speed boat was seen towing two inflatable craft on the east side of the loch at around 3.15pm in the afternoon. The young woman was reported to have been aboard one of the inflatables.

After falling into the water, she became distressed and the RNLI inshore lifeboat team were called.

The woman was placed on a spinal board and airlifted to a hospital in Inverness.

A Highland councillor who witnessed the incident from his lochside home, said, "Looking through binoculars, I saw one guy with no safety jacket and although another guy was wearing one, there seemed to be a grave shortage of safety equipment by the boat users involved in this accident."

It is uncertain whether a personal injury claim will be instigated by the woman with suspected spinal injury.
