A Chilean student living in London has received road accident compensation for the personal injuries she suffered when she and her bicycle became crushed between two heavy goods vehicles.
The 31-year-old, who lives in the Gipsy Hill area of the capital, suffered a broken leg and exposure of the bone, an injury known as "degloving", and is now registered as permanently disabled.
The road accident compensation claimant had been on her way to perform voluntary work for a charity organisation when she suffered the accident.
Her no win, no fee solicitor explained why he believed the cycling injuries payout was justified. "She has a permanent disability which has restricted her mobility and has also prevented her pursuing her sporting activities," he said.
Adding, "Before the accident she was an accomplished triathlete. The settlement provides compensation for… severe injuries, the nine operations she has undergone, as well as compensation for her past and future care requirements and loss of earnings."
The woman's road accident compensation settlement, which was reached out of court, only shortly before the case was due to for a hearing brought an end to a three-year fight for compensation.
The claimant did not receive 100 percent compensation – the payout was split 70:30 in the claimant's favour, with her receiving £280,000.
