UK personal injury lawyers are celebrating winning the largest group product liability claim action in history after securing 100% compensation payments for around 2,000 people injured by chemical burns from toxic sofas.
However, many of those affected by the defective product scandal say that although they are satisfied to have finally received settlement, they are not celebrating, as they would have preferred to have never suffered injury in the first place.
And, although the chemical which caused the burns, DMF, has now been banned by the EU, there has still been no official recall of sofas that may contain the chemical.
One of the product liability claim solicitors involved in the case comments, "We believe many sofas are still in use with DMF in them. Anyone who develops symptoms should seek urgent medical advice. Anyone who has not registered a claim yet, should seek help as time is running out to bring a claim."
Unfortunately, although the 2,000 involved in the group action product liability claim received settlement, those who bought their sofas from Land of Leather are unlikely to receive any compensation, owing to the fact that the now dissolved retailer breached the terms of its insurance policy.
