After recalling millions of cars due to product liability concerns, Toyota has announced that it will start fixing accelerator pedals on 2.3 million vehicles in a massive repair session that could have some dealers staying open around the clock.
The parts needed to fix the problem are already being shipped and the car firm has halted production at its factories in order to focus on fixing the problem.
The repair programme stems from Toyota's recall of eight models last week which all had potential problems with 'sticky accelerator pedals' which could become jammed with wear. Obviously if this problem had not been spotted by the manufacturers, it could have had disastrous consequences and led to serious road accidents and multiple compensation claims.
Jim Lentz, president of Toyota's sales organisation in the US said, "We deeply regret the concern that our recalls have caused for our customers and we are doing everything we can – as fast as we can – to make things right."
Thankfully, the fault was discovered before any drivers had to make a product liability claim for the cars involved.
