Recent figures have revealed that Bedfordshire Police Force has paid out a total of £45,894 since 2006 in accident at work compensation to employees who sustained a personal injury whilst on duty.
Successful claims range from a £1,000 pay-out for an officer who sustained back injuries while working at a desk, to a £10,000 settlement received by a female Priority Crime Officer who sustained head injuries after falling from a chair.
Other payments include a £7,300 pay-out to an employee who fell down stairs when a handrail collapsed and a £4,875 claim made by a worker who suffered burn injuries while on a training course.
A Bedfordshire Police spokesperson stated that work accidents were always thoroughly investigated on an individual basis.
If the police force are found to be liable then accident at work compensation is paid from the Bedfordshire Police's insurance reserve, however if the claim exceeds £100,000 then the amount is paid by the force's insurance policy.
