A Welsh train driver has been awarded £80,000 in work accident compensation after his personal injury solicitor successfully negotiated an out-of-court settlement with the man's former employers.
The Welsh press report that the work accident happened in 2005 when the train driver was in a Cardiff Central Station staff room talking to colleagues, only for a chair to suddenly buckle under him.
The 51-year-old sought the assistance of personal injury solicitors after being advised that he would never be able to return to work. He told a Welsh newspaper, "I began feeling discomfort and pain soon afterwards.
"I thought that by resting my back for a few days it would be OK but the pain just got worse. I could hardly move, I couldn't drive and the pain made me feel sick.
"Although I took painkillers, they didn't seem to offer much comfort and when I returned to work it was very difficult. The pain was intense and I began feeling numbness in my right leg."
Even physiotherapy failed to aid the man's recovery.
Speaking after the work accident compensation win, the retired train driver's personal injury solicitor commented, "My client has been left unemployed by an accident which was easily preventable."
