A family in Northern Ireland narrowly escaped serious personal injury as a construction site accident turned into a car accident last weekend.
The hook of a crane, which was being prepared to operate on a private building site, swung into a road and collided with a car, containing two adults and two children. The driver is believed to have suffered personal injury to the head in the crash, and to have been released from hospital; his passengers are thought to be unhurt.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and the road was closed for a period. The commander of the Fire Service said, "We were called to the incident on Saturday morning and on arrival we ascertained that the crane had been preparing to start work when the hook swung out and struck the people carrier on the front passenger side.
"There were four people, two adults and two children, in the car at the time. Three fire appliances were on the scene and hydraulic cutting equipment was used to free the man in the front seat. His injuries did not appear to be life threatening but it would be fair to say they all had a lucky escape."
The Northern Ireland Health and Safety Executive will investigate this construction site accident but has made no comment regarding specifics in this case. No comment has been made by the family regarding their intention to pursue a no win, no fee personal injury claim.
