A former oil tanker driver is trying to make a personal injury claim against the management of an oil depot where an explosion caused him spinal injuries.
The 50-year-old says he was injured during the Buncefield blast and fire and is seeking accident compensation from Total UK.
At the time of the explosion in 2005, the driver was pulling into the staff car park when the blast ripped through tanks containing oil.
The shock of the explosion reached 2.4 on the Richter scale and the driver alleges that the force of the blast shook his car. causing him spinal problems and leaving him unable to work.
He is now seeking accident compensation from Total UK for £1 million for the suffering and injuries the blast caused.
Total UK was fined £6.2 million, Hertfordshire Oil Storage Limited was fined £2.4 million and the British Pipeline Agency £780,000 for the explosion.
The decision over the man's personal injury claim will be decided at a later date.
