Train dangles over cliff-edge after crash

Around sixty people were said to have been involved in a passenger accident which resulted in a derailed train hanging precariously over a 40ft embankment close to the Falls of Cruachan power station in Argyll and Bute.

Two dozen passengers were believed to have suffered personal injuries in the accident which happened shortly before 9pm on June 6.

Strathclyde emergency services were alerted to the incident by a passenger on the train and there was a "major deployment" of crews to the scene.

Thankfully, none of the passengers were believed to have been seriously injured and emergency services described them all as "walking wounded".

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said, "The train involved was the 18.20 Glasgow Queen Street to Oban service. This is a two-car train and the leading car has derailed and caught fire."

The cause of the passenger accident remains unclear but an investigation is underway.
