Nurse seeks personal injury compensation from dead man

A district nurse who suffered a personal injury in a fall at the home of one of her patients is suing him for compensation, despite the fact that he died a week after her visit.

The woman, from Stockport, is making an accident claim through a solicitor for the soft tissue injuries to her ankle and foot which she says have stopped her from working since she fell on a wooden wheelchair ramp at the man's house.

A bank nurse for Stockport Primary Care Trust, she had been visiting a 75-year-old cancer sufferer, who died in June, but has only now begun legal action to compensate for her pain, suffering and loss of earnings.

Neither the nurse nor her personal injury lawyer knew of the man's death and a letter addressed to him was sent to the house asking about inspection records, safety checks and accident book entries.

The man's son told the press he was angry at the insensitivity of the personal injury compensation claim alleging negligence.
