The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has awarded two Scottish nuclear power stations the Order of Distinction for their continued attention to industrial safety and prevention of accidents at work.
Hunterston B and Torness power stations have achieved 15 consecutive RoSPA Gold Awards and the acclaimed ‘Order of Distinction' has been subsequently bestowed in recognition of this accomplishment.
Both plants have both implemented a wide range of workshops and focus groups to improve working practice, employee working behaviour, and to eliminate unsafe actions and conditions.
Mark Gorry, station director at Hunterston B praised the hard work of staff and contractors saying, "This is a fantastic achievement and reflects well on the continued commitment of all staff and contractors to make Hunterston B a safe and secure place to work.
"Accident prevention and successful application of human performance tools and techniques are major contributors to a continued supply of safe, affordable, reliable and carbon-free electricity generation for the people of Scotland."
Brian Cowell, station director at Torness added, "Nuclear safety is always our number one priority but this is closely followed by industrial safety. We want our plants to be as safe as we can possibly make them, and for our staff and contract partners to go about their work in a safety conscious manner."
The North Ayrshire and East Lothian nuclear plants have been recognised for their prevention of accidents at work, good working practice and all pro-active procedures that unite to make the sites safe places to work.
