A no win, no fee solicitor has helped a nurse from Newcastle-upon-Tyne has won work injury compensation for the back injury she suffered in a workplace incident. She suffered the musculoskeletal injury as a result of attempting to move a damaged bed.
The 46-year-old claimant took action against the NHS trust that employed her, taking case all the way to Newcastle County Court.
However, her no win, no fee solicitor managed to negotiate a settlement on the first day of hearing.
The successful claimant told press, "I worked as a nurse for more than 20 years and enjoyed my career.
"Lifting and handling was a large part of my job and I had been trained in the correct techniques.
"However, the bed's brake was faulty and the simplest move has led to me being unable to work."
While the no win, no fee solicitor who represented the case used the victory as an opportunity to emphasize the value of checking and maintaining work equipment. "If the hospital had ensured its equipment was in good working order [the claimant] would not have suffered from serious back pain," she said.
Adding, ``A simple check of equipment could have avoided this accident."
The claim was settled for £45,000.
