A Canadian Mountie is making a personal injury compensation claim after he was allegedly hurt when he volunteered to be tasered during a training course.
The police officer claims the electrical discharge left him with leg and neck injuries and also a damaged spine that later required surgery.
He has recruited the services of a personal injury solicitor to help him make his compensation claim on the basis that the risks of being tasered were not properly explained to him before he volunteered to be shocked.
The accident claim is being made against the manufacturers of the taser gun and also the Attorney General of Canada on the basis that the instructor carrying out the training was not qualified to do so.
The weapon's manufacturer refuted the compensation claim, issuing a statement saying: "Having volunteered for the exposure to the taser device, the plaintiff failed to follow instructions with respect to such exposure."
They also insist that the Mountie "ought to have known that voluntary exposure to the taser device involved a risk of injury or damage".
