A British man's family is asking for help in raising thousands of pounds for his medical treatment in Thailand where his accident abroad is causing his relatives great stress and money problems.
The 22-year-old man had trained to be a driving instructor in Thailand and when he married Nid, a Thai citizen, in 2009, he decided to make the country his new home.
A pillion passenger on a friend's moped, he suffered personal injury when the vehicle collided with a car and he was thrown over the top, landing on the road. He suffered two broken legs, a broken arm, and sustained internal injuries.
Unfortunately, since he had planned to live and work in Thailand permanently, he had no travel or holiday insurance.
To date his family has spent £20,000 on medical bills and wants to move him to England for better treatment when he is strong enough to travel. This will cost about another £60,000 while the costs of his care come to a total of about £1000 a day, the family reports.
Now, running low on funds and frightened that treatment will cease if they run out of money, they have set up a bank account for public donations.
The man's situation after his accident abroad is taking its toll on family members and his aunt has said they will "greatly appreciate" any help that they can get. It is not known if he will be able to make a compensation claim against either the moped or car owners.
