An 18-year-old man from Cumbria has decided against making a medical negligence claim after having a testicle removed as a result of a misdiagnosis.
In 2010, the young man was told that he had testicular cancer and that the staff had to take medical action immediately. This involved the removal of the testicle seemingly affected by a cancerous lump, but, three weeks after his surgery, he was told that the lump had been a rare cyst.
The personal injury victim said, "They didn't apologise to me or anything, there was no real explanation."
He had even been told that he would need chemotherapy after his operation and had started a website to raise money for testicular cancer charities through fundraising activities.
He has continued to raise awareness of testicular cancer despite being told he hadn't actually suffered from the disease, but says that he feels "like I've aged about 10 years and it's all happened in the space of three weeks".
Adding, "My chances of having children are now reduced and having a testicle removed has really knocked my confidence and self esteem."
After thinking about making a medical negligence claim against the hospital, he decided otherwise, stating that he just wants to consign that episode of his life to the past and move on.
