Medical negligence compensation has been awarded to a Manchester grandmother after her doctor repeatedly failed to diagnose her with a broken hip.
The 67-year-old suffered the injury after falling on her street of residence and shortly afterwards telephoned her GP following symptoms of acute pain.
However, he simply prescribed her painkillers and, over a six-month period, advised her to ensure that she remained mobile.
It was only after an eighth visit to the hospital, when she was accompanied by one of her granddaughters, that the woman final received a referral for an x-ray.
Once this x-ray was taken, a broken hip was confirmed as the cause of the woman's pain and she was quickly booked in for a hip replacement.
Speaking after the award of her medical negligence compensation settlement, the grandmother commented, "I am grateful my granddaughter was so insistent that I was sent for an x-ray."I was in terrible pain for months and it would have just continued if I'd not finally gone for the scan which confirmed the fracture."
The personal injury lawyer who represented the claim said that "the delay in diagnosis resulted in almost six months of unnecessary pain and suffering for my client."
He also said that had his client's "condition been investigated more thoroughly after the initial fall, she would not have suffered such pain, discomfort and restricted mobility for so many months."
The medical negligence compensation settlement is reported to amount to a significant four-figure sum.
