Cancer survivor seeks compensation

A woman from Norwich has commenced a medical negligence claim against Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital for what she alleges was botched breast reconstruction surgery following a 2006 breast cancer mastectomy.

Personal injury solicitors representing the woman filed a medical negligence claim writ at the High Court of Justice and are looking to secure a settlement of between £50,000 and £100,000.

The woman alleges that care and treatment she received were substandard and that this has
"had an enormous adverse impact upon her physical and psychological state", leading to a breakdown in some important personal relationships.

A spokesperson from Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital said that said its plastic surgery was "world class" and that "many patients undergoing breast reconstruction write to say they are delighted with the outcome."

It also said it would seek to defend the medical negligence claim. "We are aware that court proceedings have been issued in this case and we are contesting the case, which will be handled by the NHS Litigation Authority on our behalf as we are a member of the Clinical Negligence Scheme for Trusts (CNST)," said the spokesperson.
