The nation of Nepal has been seized by medical negligence-related furore in recent weeks, leading to a significant number of doctors going on strike amid reports of physical attacks and threats by family and patients affected by alleged medical negligence.
Those on strike, from many of Nepal's hospitals and clinics, are demanding better security to protect them from violent attacks.
And, so far, there is no sign that the strikes will end soon. Dr Kedar Narsingh of the Nepal Medical Association commented, "The government has not even bothered to call us for talks and has not taken us seriously. We will continue our protest until the government responds positively."
Unfortunately this is not a new problem for Nepal, with doctors striking over the same issue just over two years ago.
Some have said that the threats, violence and strikes highlight the need for Nepal to have a more effective system for patients wanting to claim clinical negligence compensation.
