A mechanic from Livingston, West Lothian, has been awarded £100,000 in accident at work compensation after being left blinded in one eye.
The 26-year-old had been repairing a bus when he was struck in the eye by a spark of metal. His personal injuries were so severe that he has permanently lost the sight in that eye.
The employee launched a claim for work accident compensation against the Edinburgh bus tour company after claiming that he was unable to gain access to the safety goggles as the storeroom holding them was locked and he was under pressure to get the job done.
As a result of the work accident the man was forced to undergo emergency surgery at the Princess Alexandra Eve Pavilion, however doctors were unable to restore his sight.
The Court of Session in Edinburgh heard how the employee had struggled to come to terms with his injuries and battled severe depression. He later emigrated to Australia in an attempt to start a new life.
The company has now settled the case with an undisclosed payout of accident at work compensation to the injured employee.
