Three building companies have been fined after a worker suffered severe personal injuries in an accident at work.
The 41-year-old from Bromley had been carrying out building work at Arsenal's Emirates, Ashburton Grove Stadium, London, when the horrific work accident took place.
He had been kneeling down to clean steel shuttering used to reinforce structures when a dumper truck ran over his right leg.
The worker sustained personal injuries to his leg as well as a fractured pelvis. His injuries were so severe doctors were forced to amputate his right leg.
A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation revealed that the three construction companies involved in the work at the stadium had failed to ensure that pedestrians and vehicles were sufficiently separated.
The companies all admitted to a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act at the City of London Magistrates' Court and were fined a combined sum of £54,000.
An HSE inspector speaking after the court hearing highlighted the importance of segregating workers from vehicles on a construction site, adding that the accident at work could have easily been avoided had the safety risks been assessed.
