Accident news - Lincoln City footballer injured during road traffic accident

A talented young footballer who plays for Lincoln City Ladies team, Kerry Smith (21), has been hurt in a car accident that took place earlier this week in Grimsby, Humberside.

She was taken to hospital after her car, a Citroen Saxo, collided with another car in the road traffic accident and hit a tree at high speed, causing her personal injuries. No statements have been given to the police at present, who are appealing for witnesses to come forwards.

People who had seen Kerry only the night before at the club were taken aback by the news. Kerry was pulled out of the wreakage unconscious and taken straight to Grimsby hospital.

She is being treated for leg and head injuries and will shortly be undergoing an operation.

The Lincoln club's chairman Gerry Adams said, "Losing Kerry Smith at this time of the season is a massive blow for our squad. She is a key player for us and has been integral to our successes during the first half of the season.

"Fortunately we have the strength and depth in our squad now to cope with a situation like this, but losing such a great and consistent talent as Kerry is a huge blow to the club. The rest of the players will now have to step up to the challenge of doing without Kerry for a while."

It is not yet known whether Kerry will be making an accident compensation claim following the car crash.
