Ladder accident victim will receive payout

A Middlesex man who suffered a horrific ladder accident in 2005 could receive a payout of £1m compensation after High Court litigation found his employers were partly responsible.

The court heard how the man had been working on an office block air conditioning system using a ladder propped against a door when he fell.

When he was found he was unconscious having endured massive head injuries. He has been left with brain damage and requires round-the-clock daily care.

His former employers conceded that they were 80 per cent responsible for the accident. The man's personal injury lawyers suggest compensation could be in excess of £1m.

The judge approving the settlement on the issue of liability recognised the "very serious consequences" for the man and his family.

The man's wife said of the ladder accident, "[It] has caused a great deal of injury to my husband, followed by a great deal of trauma to us all. The financial and practical effects are huge. I have lost my husband."
