Injury compensation is being sought by a 61-year-old former haulage contractor who became paralysed as a result of an accident at work.
The Norfolk man, who was self-employed at the time of the accident, suffered a serious spinal injury while working at a motor show in Madrid in June of 2006.
The injury compensation writ served by the claimant's personal injury solicitor details how the accident happened. It says that during an attempted to secure an unsecured load, the claimant climbed on top of a trailer and "grabbed at what he thought was a long piece of rigging but turned out to be a short piece, which came away as he grabbed it. The claimant fell to the floor and sustained injury as a result."
The company who contracted the 61-year-old's services are being sued on the basis of a numerous alleged health and safety breaches, including failure to provide adequate equipment and failure to provide a risk assessment.
In addition to his spinal injuries, the claimant is understood to suffer from secondary psychiatric injuries.
The UK solicitor who is representing the Norfolk man's injury compensation claim has told the press, "It is an extremely expensive case to investigate as far as expert evidence is needed. We will claim for adaptations to his home, care and physiotherapy and all the things he needs which we cannot yet put a price on."I think he is amazingly good and he is trying so hard to come to terms with the most terrific injuries. He is really trying not to let it take him over and wallow in depression. The impact on his family has also been tremendous."
