A British Rail employee has secured £14,000 after making an industrial hearing loss compensation claim.
The man, who worked for the company for almost 30 years, now has to use a hearing aid, and his no win, no fee solicitor was able to demonstrate that the firm was liable for the related hearing loss.
The personal injury lawyer said, "Unfortunately, many of the shops at British Rail were extremely noisy and workers were never given any warning or ear protection."
Reports on the case from the Wiltshire Gazette and Herald suggest that there are as many as 170,000 UK sufferers from tinnitus and deafness as a result of exposure to noise at work. Companies can protect against no win, no fee compensation claims being made in future cases of industrial hearing loss by providing appropriate protective gear.
