Cruise ship passengers come down with gastroenteritis

A Norfolk couple are making a holiday accident compensation claim after they were taken ill on a cruise ship.

The couple were taken ill with gastroenteritis on board a Fred Olsen cruise around the Mediterranean and were confined to their cabins for three days of the cruise.

Fred Olsen said that norovirus has been brought on board two of their ships and 50 people had been taken ill.

A spokesperson for the cruise firm said, "It is only to be expected that cruise lines, along with hospitals and schools and other institutions where people are together in close proximity, have also been affected by the virus."

To combat the spread of the virus, the turnaround of the company's ships was extended so that they could be cleaned properly after the outbreak and sanitizing gels were placed around the vessel.

Personal injury lawyers have been contacted by 50 of the passengers who are all looking at making holiday accident claims for their illness on board the cruise ships.
