In Derry a group called Headway has received praise from a local woman for the support they offered regarding her son, who suffered a brain injury in an accident nearly 20 years ago.
Just ahead of the organisation's relaunch, the woman said that she believed they were "tremendous", having given great help to her following the road traffic accident that caused her son's personal injury. She was particularly grateful, as her son's accident came two years after her husband's death.
"I was in a state of shock without any help or respite until Headway came along 10 years later," she said.
"It's important that I emphasize how much better it is now for families coping with a brain injury compared to 20 years ago. Headway are a fantastic group, they send a team into work with the families/ carers before they bring their relative home from hospital and provide a whole care package for them."
Headway also provide information through their website, covering matters from education following an acquired brain injury (ABI) to making a medical negligence claim if you feel your NHS treatment has been substandard. Some Headway groups offer advocacy services which may replace the need for a personal injury solicitor.
