Flight attendant's head injury caused neurological harm

A flight attendant who suffered serious head injury in an accident at work in 2008 has begun legal action in an attempt to receive compensation for her pain and loss of earnings.

The incident occurred at Heathrow on a commercial aircraft which had been grounded on the runway due to delays.

While the passengers and crew were waiting the victim went to fetch some water for one of the passengers.

Before proceeding to get water she had to move an ice canister out of the way by placing it into a cabinet, but the door swung open and spilled ice onto the floor.

The attendant closed the cabinet door once again, before trying to clean the spillage, but as she bent down the door opened and the heavy receptacle struck her on the head.

The victim stated in her High Court writ that the incident had resulted in her suffering "serious neurological consequences", and had stopped her from working.

She is seeking between £100,000 and £300,000 in damages from the airline with which she was employed.

If the victim's employer is found liable for the head injury she suffered, then her claim may be successful.
