Woman and grandchild thrown from log ride at funfair

A woman and her four-year-old grandchild have suffered severe personal injuries after being thrown from a funfair ride during a seaside visit.

The 58-year-old woman had taken her granddaughter to the seaside resort in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, when they were thrown from one of the popular log flume rides, situated on the town's seafront.

Holidaymakers watched in horror as the log shaped carriage became stuck on the steepest part of the ride. As the carriage jolted back into action, the woman and child were both catapulted from their seats.

The grandmother had to be airlifted to the Hull Royal Infirmary after she suffered a potentially life changing leg injury. Her granddaughter, who landed in the water-filled pool, sustained cuts and bruising as well as a minor leg injury. She was taken to Scarborough hospital for treatment.

A Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation into the accident and the safety of the funfair rides is now underway.

It has not been reported whether the personal injury victims will be pursuing an accident injury compensation claim.
