A compensation claim is to be started by the family of a schoolgirl who nearly suffered fatal injuries in a swimming pool accident.
The seven-year-old girl was swimming at a pool in Canvey Island, when her long hair was sucked into a vent and trapped her underwater for more than two minutes.
The young girl was unconscious and blue after being rescued from the pool by her great- grandfather. Following the accident, she was taken to Southend Hospital for emergency treatment and spent nine hours recovering from the traumatic experience.
The council which operates the swimming pool was prosecuted the by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and fined £18,000 at Basildon Magistrates Court after admitting to failing its Health and Safety responsibilities.
The mother of the young girl has expressed that her daughter is unlikely to recover from the ordeal and is now preparing to start a personal injury compensation claim against the council for its negligence.
