A former nurse diagnosed with the industrial disease mesothelioma has launched an appeal in a bid to make a successful no win, no fee compensation claim against her previous employer.
The woman believes that she was exposed to asbestos while working in several different hospitals around the Norwich area in the last 40 years.
She contacted personal injury solicitors to make a no win, no fee claim and is now appealing to her former colleagues who would be able to back up the claim that asbestos was used in the hospitals.
The woman said, "At each of the hospitals I worked at I recall asbestos lagging on pipes. Part of my job as a student was to clean the hospital on weekends. I remember dusting and wiping down surfaces.
"In theatres, one of the main jobs, as staff nurse and then sister, was to keep the theatres clinically clean. Workmen came in at the weekend, and I would clean up after them. There was always building work going on."
Her no win, no fee solicitor commented on the asbestos claim and said, "She worked in hospitals where there was extensive use of asbestos lagging. It's her only source of exposure. In order to further her claim for compensation, we need evidence from witnesses who might have worked alongside her."
If her claim is successful, the former nurse could be awarded compensation for her no win, no fee work injury claim.
