The parents of a boy who suffered from a limp may consider making a compensation claim after doctors shortened the wrong leg.
Five-year-old Miao Mingming from China was undergoing surgery at the Xiangya Second Hospital in Changsha to correct his limp.
But according to his parents, the doctors performed the operation on the wrong leg after lying him down on his back to anesthetise him and then carrying out surgery whilst he was lying on his stomach.
His parents may now be in the position to consult personal injury solicitors and make a compensation claim for medical negligence against the hospital.
The boy's father said, "The doctor suggested surgery to extend the withered tendon, and we agreed. But when Mingming came out of the operating room, I found his left leg was in the cast."
Chief doctor Zhao commented on the surgery and said, "I am very sorry about what has happened. Before the surgery, the patient was lying on his back and received full anaesthesia, and then the surgery was done with the patient lying on his stomach."
Mingming's family may consider the option of making a compensation claim for clinical negligence following the news that their son will require two further operations to correct the medical error.
