An estate agent who had been taking part in a cycle race as part of a team bonding day in Canterbury is pursuing cycling accident compensation after suffering serious personal injuries at the event.
The cycle race was taking place along a tarmac road at a country park in June 2008 when the man was thrown from his bike after colliding with a colleague. The incident caused the man to hit his head on the track leaving him with serious head injuries.
Left with life-long adverse effects, the man has launched a claim for cycle accident compensation against his employer, claiming that they were negligent in their risk assessments of the activity. The company has denied the accusation and the case is to be settled in London's High Court.
Despite helmets being made available to participants they were not required to wear them and colleagues of the man have argued that if this had been enforced the injury would not have occurred.
The results of the hearing will determine whether or not the man will be awarded with cycling accident compensation and whether he will be considered partially liable for his injuries having chosen not to wear protective equipment.
