An elderly Lancashire man who developed a fatal asbestos-related cancer is making a compensation claim against the hospital that he insists is responsible for his illness.
The 75-year-old is suffering from mesothelioma and has been given just six months to live by doctors. He worked as a maintenance builder in a Burnley hospital between 1967 and 1987 and claims his exposure to asbestos during this period is to blame for his disease.
He has consulted personal injury solicitors about the situation and is now claiming damages of £200,000. His writ alleges that he spent much of his 20 years' employment working in areas containing pipework and boilers lagged with asbestos and that he was also exposed to asbestos expansion joints in crumbling brickwork.
His compensation claim is based on the fact that his employers supposedly didn't warn him of the risks of his job and failed to provide him with protective equipment.
A date for an asbestos claim hearing has not yet been set.
