An independent Queen's Counsel is next month due to assess the compensation claim of one of the men worst affected by the infamous 2006 TGN 1421 drug trial.
Despite the fact that Paraxel, the research body that organised the trials, still deny any liability for the compensation claim, personal injury solicitors representing the 22-year-old claimant remain hopeful of securing him at least £2 million in damages.
Photographs of the drug trial's six participants shocked the world in 2006 and led to the media describing it as the "Elephant Man Drug Trial".
The 22-year-old who is currently waiting to hear the outcome of his compensation claim was one of those who suffered most. His body swelled to three times its normal size, he has placed in a medical coma, had his fingers and toes amputated and suffered multiple organ failure.
Media have recently speculated that, faced with a strong evidence of negligence gathered by various personal injury solicitors, Parexel may soon be ready to offer some form of settlement.
