Dinner leaves man with hook in tongue

A Chinese man has made a personal injury compensation claim against a restaurant after getting a fish hook stuck in his tongue.

The man was dining in Shanghai and was tucking into his fish main course when he felt something sharp in his mouth. He initially thought it was a piece of bone but further investigation revealed the gruesome truth.

Telling journalists of the incident, he said: "I tried to take the bone out, but I felt metal with my tongue, and had blood all over my hand."

Unable – and unwilling – to finish his dinner, the man was taken to hospital where doctors operated to remove a 1cm fishing hook from his tongue.

A spokesperson for the hospital released a statement saying: "He should recover soon, but his eating will be restricted for the next few days."

It is understood that the Shanghai man has already contacted personal injury solicitors about making a public liability compensation claim against the restaurant."
