A multi-million pound clinical negligence payout has been made to a boy who suffers from cerebral palsy as a result of mistakes made during his birth. At the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in September 2002, the boy experienced oxygen starvation and this resulted in a disabling brain injury.
The boy's parents said the money would pay for the 24-hour care which their son, now aged eight, would need for the rest of his life.
A barrister representing the Oxford Radcliffe Hospital NHS Trust said the trust profoundly regretted the incident and that the standard of care had failed the boy.
"We acknowledge that money will never replace what he has lost, but we hope that, after today, they can look forward knowing that the financial worry about satisfying his needs in future has now been met."
The exact amount of clinical negligence compensation agreed by Mr Justice David Steel at the High Court has not been disclosed.
