A 55-year-old woman is considering suing an NHS trust for clinical negligence compensation after misdiagnosis of her pancreatic cancer meant she is now terminally ill and cannot be treated for the disease.
She consulted her GP and doctors at Southend Hospital more than 20 times about her stomach pains but was told she had gallstones and was refused a CT scan. It was only when she eventually had one that the cancer was discovered.
Now that she is only expected to live for a few weeks, the victim says she wants to increase awareness of the illness and to raise money towards research and helping others.
The woman told the Southend Echo that she was upset not only about the misdiagnosis but that she was told she would have to wait for three weeks to meet someone from the hospital to discuss her concerns about the alleged clinical negligence. She may now consult a personal injury lawyer about potential compensation.
