Eleven years on from a road accident which left him with a brain injury which altered his personality and gave him learning difficulties, a man from York has finally received compensation for his injuries.
In 2000, after running into the road after a ball, the then eight-year-old boy had to be taken to hospital after he was hit by a bus and suffered serious injuries.
According to his mother, before the accident the boy was, "very laid back and easy-going", but "the effects of his brain injury caused him to become more aggressive towards the rest of the family". He would threaten people, break items around the house and he left school without any GCSEs.
Now 19 years of age, the victim of the accident is managing to regain independence with the help of a Skills for Living course being held at York College, has joined a local snooker club and over the summer holidays, takes part in voluntary work.
This year the young man's family was awarded a six-figure compensation sum from the bus company found liable for the road accident and the individual's brain injury. The money will be put towards his rehabilitation and the care he still needs eleven years after the incident.
