Scottish parliamentarians (MSPs) are pressing their country's health secretary Nicola Sturgeon to provide more help to care for victims of brain injury.
Their demands come after an action group called BrainIAC (the Brain Injury Awareness Campaign) presented a petition calling for improved support for victims and carers.
Campaigners claim more appropriate after-care is required to help brain injury sufferers who survive head traumas.
BrainIAC champion Helen Moran, a mother who suffered head injuries after falling from a window, is demanding ministerial involvement to drive the issue forward.
In a local newspaper, she said, "We're asking for acquired brain injury to be treated as a separate category, so that when people are released from hospital the support and care they and their families need is there."
MSPs on the Public Petitions Committee have written to the health secretary to urge her to best consider the case that, if implemented, could significantly help recovery prospects for brain injury victims.
For many brain injuries, it maybe possible to make compensation claims to personal injury lawyers who can pursue cases on behalf of victims and their families. Call 0808 144 0043 for assistance and a free appraisal of your case.
